There are over 100 million blogs and over 1 million new blog posts every week, no wonder keeping up with all the good stuff can be such a headache!

Link Love for Everyone

Seeing that I read hundreds of blogs a month, I’ve come across some pretty interesting posts these past couple of weeks and have been dying to share them with you. Let’s see what we’ve got cooked up for us this week!

Rajaie recently interviewed the buzz marketing expert, Dean Hunt, and asked him some pretty interesting questions I’m sure you will enjoy. Donace also held an interview with the admin of the new company Adigtize that helps you sell ads on your site.

Swastik from SplitStack explains in detail how you can make thousands of dollars in product launches, a method increasing in popularity these past few months. Ajith from Dollar Shower recently launched an awesome plugin that helps bring back all your blog’s past commenters, a must-have for all blogs.

Finally, Brian shares the secret of how to sell anything - no, I won’t say how, just read the post.

Updates - Fresh From the Blogosphere

WordPress 2.7 was released a few weeks ago and features some impressive new features like:

  • Batch editing for tags, categories, and more
  • Complete redesign to the WordPress dashboard
  • Sticky posts and threaded comments
  • Automatic installation for plugins
  • Ability to automatically upgrade Wordpress from the dashboard

Those are just a few of the hundreds of changes in the latest WordPress release. I still haven’t upgraded just to make sure all the bugs are ironed out before I do. But for those of you that are feeling adventurous, here is a very good guide on how to upgrade your WordPress intallation.

The Blog-Flipping Frenzy

Flipping blogs seems to be the latest fashion in the blogosphere lately. I’m sure many of you have heard of all the blogs put up for auctioning these past couple of weeks.

First we have The University Kid being auctioned off at the SitePoint marketplace for a BIN price of $11,500 which is more than reasonable considering its stats. The auction is about to end in a few minutes, so if you really want it, then you better hurry.

Update: The auction is over, apparently it did not reach the reserve price.

Next we have Linkers Blog that is a relatively new blog in the blogosphere which is also being auctioned off a SitePoint with a BIN price of $3,500 - which is very underrated considering the blog’s monthly revenue, subscriber count, and all the extra bonuses that come with it.

Finally we have the blog that was recently sold for a chunky sum of $9,500. I would say that Sly Visions definitely deserved that $9.5k price tag and that Sly was very lucky considering the current situation of the economy.

Not only are tons of blogs being sold nowadays, but there are countless others that seem to have disappeared of the face of the planet! One of the two most noticeable disappearances is Monkey Blogger that seems to have disappeared after promising to come back bigger and bolder than ever. The other is Big Ben Patton who’s site gives you a HostGator page when trying to access it.

Ah well, just means less competition for the rest of us!

That’s all for today, if you haven’t already, be sure to swing by my contest and subscribe to get the chance to win $100 by PayPal and other great prizes.

  1. Hey Rajaie,

Thanks for the link love! I agree, many bloggers are either selling or are completely deadbeat. I’d love to read their opinions on different things happening.

I was a lil’ amazed at the sale of Slyvisions for that much, maybe because I was not a frequent participant to his blog.

  2. Thanks for the shout out on contact commenters plugin Rajaie. I would need it as the # of downloads are only just above 100 yet.

I am astonished at the price tags of these new blogs. The University Kid
s pricing I thought was okay considering subscription and traffic. The other two did not have that much of traffic, I guess.

Anyways good for them and others who want to sell their blogs. You did a good thing by moving on under this domain name. Because if you want to sell or flip, you need to have a domain name that is as generic as possible and not with your name or parts. SlyVisions was still okay…as ’sly’ had some meaning

Swastik - I, too, was amazed at how much SlyVisions sold for!

Ajith - That’s the main reason I chose theBlogoholic.com - easy, brandable, and generic. Also, I’ll be giving you another shout out on my other blog, hopefully it will give your plugin the attention it deserves.

  4. I’ve tried to reach Big Ben, but could not. I do not know there’s something wrong…

  5. the Blogoholic

Dinh - Yeah, it seems something is wrong with his hosting account…

  6. Thanks for the link man;

In regards to the prices yes they were / are interesting…though I think sly’s was justifiable as monthly income was a lot more optimised then TUK’s.

In regards to Ben i’ll point him tot his post so he can answer himself…but all is well with him ;)

  7. Heya I am alive and well, I had sold my blog to a client who had aspirations of taking it over, but for some reason let the hosting run out. For now I am in a rush out the door and will post more details later.

    Thanks Don.

  8. Some great read for the week. Thanks for sharing it. I have to agree that linkersblog is pretty much undervalued taking into consideration that Sly sold his for $9500. Linkersblog has better results compare to Sly since it is only a 4-5 months old blog.

    Donace - Don’t mention it :)

Ben - It’s nice to see you after such a long time! Such a shame that the client didn’t take care of your blog, it really was one of my favourites.

Wei - It seems that Linker’s Blog only went for $1,150 - I guess this is the bad time to be selling.

  10. I shall now have less competition for my blog…….people buying blogs and not running it well is good for us…Good time to launch a MMO blog :)

  11. I liked the copyblogger post, thanks for sharing

  12. the Blogoholic

ZK - Hehe, I agree with you. But that still doesn’t mean the current competition will be any less fierce ;)
